Design Aesthetic

Talisman Fine Jewelry's design aesthetic is defined by an abstract, modernist sensibility that's rooted in ancient mystical traditions. While every Talisman piece is made with energetic intention and Reiki-charged, often designed around spiritual themes such as deities and occult symbols, the designs themselves are sculptural and minimalist. They're versatile and meant to be wearable everywhere from day-to-day life to special occasions. In this way the collection rides the lines between everyday jewelry, wearable art, and sacred adornment. The feel and substantiality of our jewelry is also inimitable - once you hold them in person you'll know what we mean. These are heirloom talismans in the truest sense, meant to withstand time.

Influences: Talisman designer and goldsmith Vanessa Barcus cites design influences including brutalist architecture from the likes of Paolo Soleri and John Lautner, sculptors like Isamu Noguchi, Alma Allen, JB Blunk, and Barbara Hepworth, and multidisciplinary artists like Elena Stonaker and Niki de Saint Phalle. Her interest is predominantly in abstract, amorphous and biomorphic design that is channeled intuitively. She is continually inspired by her travels, soaking up culture, nature and everything in between, wherever she goes.
