If you find yourself seeking a special jewelry piece - whether your own personal talisman, an amulet, a wedding ring, or otherwise, it may be helpful to know that I gladly take commissions for custom pieces. Making personalized jewelry, and especially wedding bands, is a truly special process that I thoroughly enjoy doing for individuals.
In addition to wedding bands and other rings, some of my favorite custom pieces to make are recycled 14k gold Amulet Necklaces, as well as my Talisman Pouch Necklaces, that are designed specifically with a customer in mind. Talisman Pouch Necklaces can be customized with just about any stone charm of your choosing, as well as any leather color I can reasonably find (I prefer to source them reclaimed if possible). I always include a special “secret” gemstone inside the pouch as well, intuitively selected for the healing and benefit of the wearer. For fully custom Amulet Necklaces, I will inscribe the pendant with a hidden sigil or other magickal inscription that is specific to you, or what you’re looking to achieve. For instance, if you’re seeking increased abundance in your life, I will work with you to create a sigil for abundance that I would then inscribe on your pendant. Please note that this inscription does not have to be visible to the eye - usually I burn the sigil or symbol onto the pendant, and then layer over it with texture and abstracted shapes. If you do wish to have your specific sigil be visible, however, we can certainly make that happen too.
What is a sigil, you may ask? Most simply put, a sigil is “an inscribed or painted symbol considered to have magical power.” At a more in-depth level, a sigil is a very personal, visual symbol used in ritual magick that represents what the practitioner’s desired outcome is. As Anaar Niino writes in the introduction to Sigil Witchery, “Sigils are powerful tools coming from the very depths of our consciousness, reflecting our deepest desires.” Coming from the depths of our liminal consciousness, as Niino says, we can create our own symbolic language. “A sigil is an invented, private language, created for specific meanings known only to the creator… Sigils draw from deep within our psyche and are cast out into the world to do their work.” I find sigils to be a great way to customize a pendant or other piece for a customer, taking the jewelry beyond simple adornment into higher purpose and intention.
While I love spiritually-purposed designs, my custom work is certainly not limited to that realm. I’m also happy to simply make you a custom set of earrings or other sculptural piece that’s pleasing to the eye. Honoring yourself with beautiful jewelry is certainly a reward in and of itself. I do usually prefer to work in recycled 14k gold, as a way of staying as sustainable as possible and making sure each piece will be a heirloom for years to come, though in some instances I can also work in silver, bronze, or brass as well. If you’re curious to find out more, it never hurts to reach out!
Now, one other thing to note here about custom work, when it comes to working with any artist: As a general rule of thumb, it is important to have an awareness about your own aesthetic preferences, and how that meshes with the aesthetic of the artist. i.e., does your desired piece make sense for this particular designer to do? Is it in the scope of their work, or within their wheelhouse? For instance, if you’re looking for a detailed, photo-realistic pendant of a bird, I am not your girl. That’s just not the kind of art that I make. But, if you like the idea of an abstracted, amorphous, or zoomorphic representation of a bird, I am your girl. For me, the work I do with Talisman Fine Jewelry is largely abstract, and intuitive in nature. I let the wax and the metal tell me where it wants to go, of course with the original idea or concept in mind. This is just how my art works, and every artist is different. Something to consider when selecting an artist for your custom piece :) There is an artist out there for everyone! I am always happy to chat with customers and can usually put you in the right direction if your particular commission idea is not the best fit for me.
